How to Register for Courses

The Providence College Catalog is available to view academic programs and course descriptions. The Semester Course Offerings for an upcoming registration term will always be available at the main CyberFriar homepage. You do not need to log in to the product to access this information. These two tools will be helpful in seeing what courses will be offered in a given term and for learning about specific course details and any registration restrictions that will assist you in the building of a schedule for that term.

Logging into CyberFriar

  1. Go to Cyberfriar, and then click Login to Secure Area.
  2. Click on Registration within the Students: Advising Gateway card. Then select Register for Classes.
  3. Choose the appropriate term and then click Continue. You may be prompted to enter an ALT PIN to access the registration screen.
  4. Use the Plans tab to view the plan that you created using the Schedule Planner, or search directly for courses within the Find Classes tab.
  5. Add your chosen courses to the Summary box below, and then click Submit. For more information on how to register for courses, visit our Tutorial page.
  6. Please refer to the CyberFriar FAQ or contact the Office of the Registrar at 401-865-1033 or at scheduling@providence.edu if you experience any registration issues.

6th Course Registration

Providence College allows students to take an “extra” course for no additional tuition on a “seat-available” basis. Please refer to the Maximum Credit Registration Guide for more information.

If you are interested in registering for an extra course, you will be able to do so through CyberFriar starting on Friday, December 5th, at 9:00 AM.

  1. Students must be in good academic standing to take an extra course.
  2. Undergraduate students must spend at least eight semesters in full-time attendance unless the period is reduced by advanced standing credit from another institution as reviewed and approved by the Student Success Center. The College reserves the right, for extraordinary reasons, to allow graduation at the completion of seven semesters following the successful petition by students to the Committee on Academic Status. Students may also petition the Committee on Academic Status to be allowed to accelerate their degree program through summer and/or winter session work (usually through the Providence College School of Continuing Education); such petitions must be received by the Student Success Center by the end of their sophomore year. Appeals of the decisions of the Committee on Academic Status should be presented to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, whose decisions will be final.
  3. Extra course registration is allowed on a seat-available basis.

Over-Enrollment/Late Additions/Withdrawals

Registration will be open in Cyberfriar until January 20th. After that date, all course additions will require completion of the Over-Enrollment/Late Add Form. Students must complete the form, and acquire written Instructor and Department Chair/Program Director approval in order to add a course.

  • Between January 21st and January 27th, return the completed form with required approvals to the Office of the Registrar, Harkins Hall 310, for over-enrollments and late course additions.
  • Starting on January 28th, return the completed form with required approvals to the Student Success Center, Library Second Floor. At this point, any dropped courses will be processed with a grade of a ‘WD’ (withdrawal). Course Withdrawal Forms can be found at Academic Advising Student Forms. There will also be a late charge of $150.00 to add a course on or after January 28th.
  • PCSB students must also submit the PCSB Enrollment Exception Form in order to request over-enrollment in a PCSB course.
