Frequently Asked Questions – Commencement
How and when do I apply for Graduation?
All Graduate and School of Continuing Education students are required to submit the online Declaration of Intention to Graduate form by the designated due date that corresponds to the semester they plan to complete their program of study.
Undergraduate students are required to submit the online Degree Verification of Graduation form the semester before their anticipated graduation date by the designated due date listed.
Degrees are conferred at the end of each semester (December, January, May, June, and August), however there is only one Commencement Ceremony each year that takes place in May. The Office of the Registrar will contact all students eligible to graduate and participate in the Commencement Ceremony via email with a link to the form they are required to submit. Regular updates regarding the Commencement Ceremony will be sent to your PC email throughout the year.
When and where is the Commencement Ceremony?
The 2025 Commencement Ceremony for graduate and School of Continuing Education students will take place on May 16, 2025 at the Peterson Recreation Center at Providence College.
The 2025 Commencement Ceremony for undergraduate students will take place on May 18, 2025 at the Amica Mutual Pavilion.
How do I get tickets to the Ceremony?
All graduates will receive 6 tickets for their friends and family. Tickets will be distributed at Cap and Gown Day in April. Students do not need a ticket for themselves.
How do I order my attire?
All seniors are required to order their cap and gown online between December and March from Herff Jones. All graduates will receive a cap, gown, hood, and tassel with their order. Please note that the attire order has already been paid for by your graduation fee.
How do I get my diploma?
Most students will receive their diploma on graduation day at the Commencement Ceremony. If a student has any holds on their account or has not completed their degree requirements before the ceremony in May, you will still be presented with your diploma cover, however you will not receive your official diploma until your holds have been cleared and/or all of your degree requirements have been met. At that point the student will need to contact the Office of the Registrar to make arrangements to either pick up their diploma or have it mailed.
Are there any deadlines to be aware of?
All students planning to graduate during the 2024/2025 academic year will be required to submit an online form, which will be sent via email from the Office of the Registrar.
